Our Topic this term is Kingdoms. We will be learning all about Robin Hood, the Gun Powder Plot and the Great Fire of London.



To begin our year we will learn non-fiction facts about our class names and create a non-fiction book. We will use headings and sub-heading to organise our writing in paragraphs.  We will be reading about the legends of Robin Hood and writing descriptively about the characters and settings. Finally this will build towards writing our own adventure narratives based on the legend of Robin Hood.

Term 2: This term our topic will focus on the Stuarts. In the beginning we will focus on the Gunpowder Plot; we will be doing letter writing, hot seating to improving questioning and using role play to develop topic specific vocabulary. We will use past tense powerful verbs to recount the events of the Great Fire of London. Using the diary of Samuel Pepys, we will write our own diary recounts. Throughout the year we will dedicate time to weekly personal recount.



We will be exploring how to use ‘a’ and ‘an’ correctly. We will be learning to use and spell a range of prefixes. We will learn how to use inverted commas to punctuate direct speech. In our writing we will express time, place and cause using conjunctions, adverbs or prepositions (fronted adverbials).  We will look at how to choice when to use a pronoun or a noun within our writing. We will look at how to spell different homophones.




We will focus on place value, addition and subtraction methods including money and length problems. We will learn to recognise, and calculate  fractions of amounts and link this to division, length and money.   We will be doing multiplication and division; focusing on x2, x3, x4, x5 and x10 tables. We will also be looking at shape, position and direction. Finally we will construct pictograms and bar charts, where the scale increases by 2, 5, and 10.  In MOG we will be focusing on telling the time, times tables, logic problems and number riddles as well as increasing mental arithmetic speed.




Our topic will be Sound. We will identify how sounds are made, associating some of them with something vibrating. We will learn to recognise that vibrations from sounds travel through to the ear. We will exploring how high and low sounds are created and investigate the best material for absorbing sound.



We will use maps, globes, atlases and digital computer mapping to name and locate counties and cities of the United Kingdoms, geographical regions and their identifying human and physical characteristics.   During History we will explore, compare and discuss the events of three British Kingdoms.



We will be videoing performances of our legends.

We will explore computer networks including using the internet. We will explore e-safety and how to stay safe digitally. As a whole school we will be exploring class blogs and how to comment appropriately online.



We will look at Christianity: We will explore Jesus and his teachings through the Bible.

We will look at the Christian Crusades: Geography/history link.

We will then explore Christian rules that make society.
