Who we are
First Steps Day Nursery at Pilgrims Way Primary Schooloffers high quality care and education for children ages 2 years (the term before the child’s 3rd birthday) to 5 years. The children are cared for in a purpose built environment which is designed to support each child’s learning and development.
Here at First Steps we are passionate about childcare and want to make each child’s and families time at nursery as unique as they are, giving them the confidence and experiences which will help them on their journey to school.
We hope to achieve this by working in partnership with parents and carers, which starts with the relationship between the Key person, the child and the parents/carers on their very first visit to the setting. We believe that every child is unique and with this in mind the Key person will plan challenging activities that extend and promote children’s learning from their starting points and their interests which are initially provided by the parents. We respect the views of the children and record these on different coloured post it notes and put into the children learning journal which are then used to inform planning and in changing around our environment.
We are committed to providing quality childcare and experiences inline with the EYFS principles and believe in delivering this using the three characteristics of learning:
- Play and exploration
- Active learning
- Creative and critically thinking
We believe that we never stand still and there are always new challenges, with this in mind we not only provide each staff member with training and development in the form of supervision and appraisals we also all work together in a setting improvement plan. This also includes moving with the times, changing guidelines and new families entering the setting .
We value not only the opinion of the uses of our setting but those of the local Early Years and Ofsted.
