Year 2 - Squirrel Class
Class teacher: Miss Hebditch
Teaching assistants: Miss Chapman and Mrs Belfield
Welcome to Term 1
A HUGE welcome to Squirrel Class!
We are going to have an absolutely fantastic year full of curiosity, creativity, kindness and fun!
In our English sessions we explore some wonderful books:
Augustus and His Smile by Catherine Rayner, Home by Carson Ellis, A Place Called Home by Kate Baker, We’re Roaming in the Forest by Laurie Krebs and The Snail and the Whale by Julia Donaldson.
Our writing will focus on Augustus and his smile, where we will use our learning of nouns and adjectives to write some wonderful descriptive writing and put our drama skills into action retelling the story to our friends!
Our Maths learning will begin with Place Value, leading on to Addition and Subtraction.
It is always helpful to us for you to support your child’s learning at home with learning the number bonds to 10 and then to 20. Your child should be able to rapidly recall all the pairs of numbers that make 10 e.g. 1 + 9, 2 + 8 etc.
We will begin the year with the Geography enquiry question ‘Would you prefer to live in a hot or cold country?’ You will be able to name the seven continents and find them on an atlas.
PE will be every Friday afternoon, so please have an appropriate named PE kit and trainers, this can be worn to school and kept on throughout the day. Please remember your named jumper. This term we will be doing PE outside.
Squirrel Class will be going to Forest School in Term 2. More details on dates and kit will follow near the time.
Home learning will include reading each day and phonics/reading/spelling games on the Twinkl app. Logins for this are shared within the children's reading record books.
If you have any questions please feel free to chat to me on the door in the morning and afternoon or contact me via DOJO.
