Welcome to Term 3

I

During Term 3, Year 5 pupils will be engaged in a wide range of exciting learning opportunities across the curriculum.

English

This term, our writing has been inspired by the novel The Extraordinary Colours of Auden Dare by Zillah Bethell. Pupils have began to explored the text in depth and used it as a stimulus for their own writing. They have focused on developing detailed character and setting descriptions, using ambitious vocabulary and figurative language to bring their ideas to life.

Geography

In Geography, pupils have been developing their atlas skills. They have located the Alps on a map and researched the region in more detail. Learning has focused on identifying and comparing human and physical features, as well as understanding how these features have changed over time.

Science

In Science, pupils have began to exploring the properties of materials. They will carry out practical experiments to investigate transparency, conductivity, and how solid different materials are. Pupils have been encouraged to make predictions, observe carefully, and record their results accurately.

Mathematics

In Maths, pupils have been moving on to multiplication and division. They have been practising a range of methods and applying their skills through problem-solving and reasoning activities to deepen their understanding.

Physical Education (PE)

In PE, the focus this term has been on dance. Pupils will work collaboratively in groups to create and perform their own dance routines. This has helped them to develop coordination, creativity, and teamwork skills.

Forest School

Otter Class pupils have been taking turns to participate in Forest School sessions. These sessions provide valuable opportunities for outdoor learning, teamwork, and developing confidence in a natural environment.

PSHE

In PSHE, pupils will be learning about racism. Discussions will focus on understanding diversity, showing respect to others, and recognising the importance of fairness and equality.

Art

In Art, pupils have began to study portraits. They will experiment with mixed media, exploring different materials and techniques to create expressive and imaginative artwork.

Our PE day is on Monday and children are advised to come to school already in their PE kits.
