Year 3 - Kingfisher Class

Welcome to Kingfisher Class

Class Teacher: Mr Dickens

Teaching Assistants: Mrs Cooper and Mrs Ali

Welcome to Term 3

I hope everyone had a great holiday and a happy New Year.

Our History enquiry this term is, 'Why did the Romans invade and settle in Britain?'. The children will be looking at how the Romans invaded Britain and what changes they made when they settled.

Our reading book this term will be 'The Captive Celt' by Terry Deary.  Set in 51 A.D., the story is about Bran, a slave, who is a prisoner of Rome.  He dreams of returning home to Britannia, but when he is overheard criticising Rome, Bran is thrown into prison and faces execution the next day. Luckily, his cell mate Caratacus is a very special prisoner indeed - a British chief. He believes he has a way to save both their lives, but he'll need Bran's help.

Our science this term is ‘Light and Shadow’.  Year 3 will be identifying light sources and learn that light is needed to see.  The children will explore how the absence of light causes darkness, investigate reflection and shadow formation.  Finally, the children will create shadow puppets to explore how light can be used in the arts.

PE will be on a Wednesday morning, where the children will be learning Netball skills. Please could the children have an appropriate PE kit in school.

Kingfisher’s Forest School sessions will take place in the latter half of the term.  They will take place on Tuesday afternoons (starting 28th January 2024). Please remember your Forest School kit and appropriate footwear. Check the Class Dojo page for regular updates on Forest School.
