Year 5 - Pine Marten Class

Term 3

English - Reading and Writing

This will be our first term in the new building. It will be very exciting and a chance to start the new year afresh in a beautiful and inspiring learning space.

We will be reading The Extraordinary Colours of Auden Dare by Zillah Bethell, a beautiful adventure about a young boy who cannot see colours. We will continue to link our writing to the children's experiences and will be helping the children to debate some difficult issues. 

Maths

This term, Pine Marten Class will continue developing their number skills through units on: Multiplication and Division  and Fractions. The children will practise multiplying and dividing larger numbers, using written methods and solving problems, and will extend their understanding of fractions by multiplying fractions and mixed numbers by whole numbers, finding fractions of amounts, and working with mixed and improper fractions.

Science

Science learning will be exploring Materials, Properties and Changes. The children will investigate different materials, their properties, and how these determine their uses. They will also explore how some materials can change state or be separated through processes such as melting, dissolving, and filtering.

Geography

Our geography learning will be answering the enquiry question: What is life in the Alps? The children will explore the physical features of this mountain range, how the climate and environment affect the people, animals, and plants living there, and the challenges and opportunities of life in mountainous areas. Through maps, research, and discussions, the children will develop their understanding of different landscapes and the ways humans adapt to them.

P.E

P.E. is on Mondays. Please ensure your child comes to school wearing their PE kit.
