Year 6 - Woodpecker Class
Welcome to Woodpecker class
Class teacher: Mrs Pursey.
Teaching assistants: Mr Hopgood, Miss Nielson and Miss Yates.
Happy New Year
Welcome back to Term 3!
I hope you have all had a wonderful break and are ready to take on the new term.
This term we have a history enquiry: 'What can the census tell us about local areas?' This builds on our learning of the impact of World War II on the people of Britain and the change in women’s roles. We will learn that members of society standing up for their rights can be the cause of change.
D.T this term is an exciting look into cooking and nutrition, where we will find suitable recipes, note the relevant ingredients and equipment, follow the recipe and ultimately understand where the foods come from.
In English, we will use the book, the film and our knowledge of 'The Wizard of Oz' to support our writing. We will write characterisations using comparative and contrastive vocabulary, as well as persuasive writing techniques to convince the Witch to change her wicked ways.
Forest school
This term we will continue to alternate weekly for Forest School. Our forest school afternoons are Monday 13th January, Monday 27th January and Monday 10th February. Your child will need to come into school wearing their school uniform with a suitable change of clothes and footwear in a bag that you are happy to get dirty and wet. As the colder, wetter weather approaches, warmer clothing, coats and waterproofs will make the experience more comfortable. Wellies or walking boots provide the most sensible option of footwear for the current conditions.
P.E
This term we will be changing our P.E to a Friday afternoon and we will be learning hockey. Please send in P.E kit and trainers to change into for the lesson. It will be outside, so warm clothing is necessary. For health and safety purposes, earrings must be removed and long hair tied back for all P.E sessions.
Reminders will be sent about Forest School and P.E on Class Dojo, as well as information shared about the learning. Any queries or questions please message me using Class Dojo.
